Completing Your Absentee Ballot
Your Absentee Ballot Arrives!
Absentee voters will receive a large envelope addressed to the voter from the county clerk containing the following items:
Voter Statement with instructions—this must be completed by the voter and returned. VERY IMPORTANT!
Ballot Only envelope—where you will put your ballot form after you’ve marked your votes on it (put nothing else in this envelope)
An unmarked paper ballot
Return Envelope—pre-addressed to the county clerk
Research Your Ballot and Fill It Out
You’ve got plenty of time to research the candidates and issues, and mark your ballot with confidence.
You can look up candidates that will be on your ballot at the LWV’s Vote411.org or go to Ballotpedia’s Sample Ballot Lookup.
To look up other candidate info, just Google each candidate’s name for their webpage or FB page.
Complete Your Ballot Packet
Instructions for returning materials are on the Voter Statement.
The following items must be included in the return packet envelope:
● Completed Voter Statement
This is to keep a record of who voted so that this ballot will only be counted after verification that you did not vote early or in person. If a duplicate packet is received, only one is counted.
● Copy of photo ID
Or sign the Optional Verification of Identity certifying that you are registered.
● Completed ballot in “Ballot Only” envelope, sealed
This is your actual vote. Place it in the envelope alone so that it can be counted anonymously with the other verified ballots on election night.
Keep in mind:
If the Voter Statement is incomplete, incorrect, or unsigned by the voter, it might not be counted.
If the Voter Statement cannot be processed, the ballot envelope is never opened, so
Do not put the Voter Statement or ID in the “Ballot Only” envelope!
Unfortunately, in Arkansas, if there are any errors on your ballot that cause the ballot not to be counted, there is no opportunity to fix those errors.
Return Your Packet to Your County Clerk
That’s it! Put those 3 items into the return envelope, and it’s ready to submit. Your return options are:
Hand-deliver it to your county clerk by the deadline.
Are you in Pulaski County? Then you can “drive through” 2nd Street between Spring & Broadway, and drop your ballot off at the County Courthouse.
Have a designated bearer hand-deliver it for you by the Friday before Election Day.
If you MUST mail your ballot, do it ASAP! It’s 3 stamps for Pulaski County, but your county may be different — check the instructions.
